Celiac disease is an immune problem that affects you after ingesting gluten sources. Gluten is the term for a protein found in some grains. When this substance goes into the small intestine, it provokes an autoimmune response. When this occurs, over some time, this autoimmune reaction may injure your small bowel lining and prevent you from taking in specific critical nutrients.

This condition is a genetic issue seen mainly, but not exclusively, in those of Northern European ancestry. Celiac disease is the most widespread genetic disease in Europe. Recent studies show that 1 out of approximately 133 people in the U.S. has the disease. To learn more details regarding treatment for celiac disease in Ocean Springs, MS and ways to appropriately treat it to help you improve your quality of life, contact Digestive Health Center and request a consultation with our skilled gastroenterological providers.

The symptoms of celiac disease may differ and be unique to every individual. Because of the high fluctuation in symptoms, it can be difficult to tell whether you are experiencing celiac disease. Some individuals experience celiac disease early in life, although others could begin to develop the condition later in life. Signs may fluctuate greatly among young individuals and adults.

A few of the markers of celiac disease include:

  • Migraines or headaches
  • Tingling or numbness in the feet or hands

Personally I think Dr. McNair is a blessing. He's been my doctor for years. He's awesome and cares for each of his patients as if they were family. He takes the time to go over his findings very thoroughly with each patient from that patients procedure and this is a wonderful thing because people want to know what is going on with them sooner than later. He answers questions and gets to the bottom of things. What a wonderful doctor he is!
